What is Listmania?

As you shop on Amazon.com, you may notice a book cover on the sidebar, with the heading, "Listmania." As you click, you'll discover that someone included that book on a list of their favorites, and they posted that list to share with other Amazon customers. This can be a great way to find other books in the same genre or by the same author that you would enjoy.

Start by putting one of your favorite books into the search engine. The Listmania list that pops up in the sidebar will either have that item included on the list, or will have similar products. Below the list, you'll see a tool bar that reads, "Search Listmania." You can enter a title there as well, and similar products will pop up.

You can create your own lists on Listmania, as well. As you roam through the Listmania pages, you will see a button that says, "Create your own list." You can do this as long as you have an Amazon account, and you can create as many lists as you like.

Why would you want to do that?

First, you can help other shoppers find quality books, music and movies. There's always a feeling of satisfaction that comes from sharing uplifting or educational material with others.

Second, you can use Listmania to help spread the word about different causes or for promotional purposes. You can make lists of books you sell or books you've written. You wouldn't use the list for heavy marketing tactics, but you would bring the products together into one spot, making them easy to find, and then you could link to that list from your website or blog.

Third, it's just plain fun.

So if you're looking for a book that's kind of like another you've read, go check out Listmania. It's a great way to locate books housed in the same genre as those you like to read, and it takes some of the guesswork out of your Internet shopping experience. And then make a list of all the great books you've read.
