Author Interview – Sherry Ann Miller (part five) On Being an Author and Being a Reader

Thank you for joining us for our concluding installment with award-winning LDS author Sherry Ann Miller. If you missed parts one, two, three or four, click here. Sherry Ann, what is your favorite part of being an author? Because of my health, I have limitations on what I am able to do. But as an author, I am able to “do” anything I want. If I want to go sport fishing for Marlin, scuba diving with great white sharks off the Great Barrier Reef, or exploring sea caves in Tonga, I can do that vicariously as an author. If I … Continue reading

How Do I Choose What Book To Read?

With the 100,000+ books that are published every year, and limited time in which to read, it can be a daunting task to narrow the selection down to books that will be enjoyable to you. I’d like to outline some ways you can make the process a little bit easier. 1. Talk to friends who have similar tastes. When you find something good, don’t you naturally want to tell others about it? Your friends are the same way. Ask them what they’ve read recently and if they think you’d like it. Their recommendations might not be right on the money, … Continue reading

What Does Jewel Adams Like to Read?

As we continue our series of what authors like to read, I’d like to share with you the list of recommended books Jewel Adams sent me. My interview with Jewel can be found here. One of Jewel’s favorite authors is Richard Paul Evans. “The Last Promise.” This novel, set in Tuscany and featuring a romance between a married woman and her tenant, was the subject of controversy upon its release. Deseret Book, Utah’s most conservative bookstore, decided that the topic was too risky for their audience and refused to stock the book in the stores. Curious, the reading public thronged … Continue reading

A Perfect Day (2006)

When I reviewed Richard Paul Evans’ book “A Perfect Day,” I didn’t realize that book had been filmed as a made-for-TV movie, nor did I know that movie would be released on DVD this very week. Life is just cool that way sometimes. What if you knew you were going to die on Christmas Day, and that’s only a few weeks off? Would you try to make amends for past wrongs, spend a little more time with loved ones? This is the question Robert Harlan must face. Suddenly famous with the sale of his first novel, Robert (Rob Lowe) goes … Continue reading

Author Interview – Leigh Bale (part one) How It All Began

Our featured author today is Leigh Bale, a multiple award-winning author of inspirational romance. Leigh, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start at the beginning of your impressive career – how did you become interested in writing? I’ve been creating stories all my life. As a child, I made up plays and acted them out with friends. We advertised and charged .05 cents for admission. My mom popped corn, so we had concessions to sell. She was a really good sport. When I got older, I wrote some short stories. I’ve always been a romantic. I believe in happily ever … Continue reading

Author Interview – Rachel Ann Nunes, Part Two

Thank you for joining us for part two of our exclusive interview with best-selling LDS women’s fiction author, Rachel Ann Nunes. If you missed part one, click here. Rachel, when we left off yesterday, we were discussing the books you have published. What projects are you planning for the future? I have two books on their way. The first, “Flying Home,” is a national women’s novel, meaning that it has no LDS element, though it will be published by Deseret Book. The book follows the story of Liana Winn, adopted at age four, who has always felt like an outsider … Continue reading

Author Interview — Julie Coulter Bellon

Today I am interviewing LDS fiction author Julie Coulter Bellon, who only recently came on the scene but has already created a splash. Julie, thank you for taking the time to give Families.com this exclusive interview. You’re an LDS fiction author with three novels under your belt. What are their names, and can you give us a synopsis on each of them? My first novel, “Through Love’s Trials,” is about an attorney, Kenneth King, whose boss asks him to deliver a disk to his ex-wife in Utah. Unfortunately, she doesn’t want to have anything to do with the disk and … Continue reading
