All Genealogy Blogs Are Not Equally Valuable

I love when I find a genealogy blog that I had not been aware of before! The information written on a genealogist’s personal blog can be entertaining, enlightening, and perhaps even informative. I try to keep in mind, however, that not every genealogy blog is going to be a useful resource for my genealogy research. Part of the reason why has to do with the very nature of what we define as “a blog”. The word “blog” is a shortened form of the phrase “web log”. Before the age of the internet, if someone wanted to write down a detailed … Continue reading

I like the genealogy blogs and newsletters because they do more than just provide links to resources that you can search through as you work on your own genealogy projects. The information found on these kinds of websites lets … Continue reading

Month in Review: July 2008 Adoption Blogs, Part One

The first week of July I shared how my daughter asked if she could be president some day and I had to say probably not. Mommy, Can I Be the President Some Day? tells this story and The Natural-Born Citizen Act tells of an attempted remedy for this law. Ensuring Our Children’s Proof of Citizenship, and, A Little Ceremony Could Have Been a Good Thing talks about getting a Certificate of Citizenship, and about my nostalgia for a naturalization ceremony even while I recognize that the automatic citizenship law of 2001 is a good thing. I share yet another profound … Continue reading

Clay Aiken Blogs, Patrick Swayze Experiences a “Miracle,” and Amy Adams is Engaged

He is almost a dad himself, but Clay Aiken is blogging about a recent UNICEF trip he took to Somalia and Kenya. He talks about how the violence in each country has left thousands of children homeless. Even as things are looking better, many children have not returned to school. Aiken wrote, “Getting children back to school is vital for their protection, and helps build a sense of normalcy in their lives. The re-establishment of schools in the most difficult circumstances is a testament to the commitment of UNICEF and to Kenyans.” He went on to say that every child … Continue reading
