Christmas eCards – Old Tradition Meets Modern Technology

People started sending Christmas cards to family and friends in 1843. This is a tradition that we still do today, and not all that much has changed about the content of a typical Christmas card. The newest innovation with Christmas cards comes in the form of eCards. Sending a Christmas card to a relative through email is a good way to keep in touch. There are two basic styles of Christmas eCards. One is the type that feels somewhat traditional. These are the ones that show nativity scenes, and images of snowmen and Santa Claus. The other style is absolutely … Continue reading

Card Scrapbook

According to a new study, traditional Christmas cards may soon go the way of VCRS and record players. Unity Marketing reports the percentage of people buying greeting cards for Christmas fell from 77 percent in 2005 to 73 percent in 2007 and to 62 percent in 2009, and with the growth of social media networking, that number is predicted to dip even lower in 2011. Experts in the greeting card industry blame social media platforms, such as Facebook, which allows people to stay up-to-date on an immediate basis. These days there is no longer the need to tuck an annual … Continue reading

Customize a Holiday Card With Ancestry.com

The Ancestry.com Facebook page is filled with plenty of interesting things for genealogists to check out. They have a customizable holiday card that you can create and then send a digital copy of to your family. It has a vintage, retro, look to it, which contrasts nicely with the modern concept of an eCard. Earlier this week, there was an uproar on the Ancestry.com Facebook page. The popular genealogy website sent out email to its thousands of members that informed them about a contest that involved the “Warhorse” movie, and a trip to London. The problem was that when people … Continue reading

How to Prepare Your Christmas Cards

Are you always behind on preparing your Christmas cards or Holiday cards? Here are some easy steps that you can take to make the process smooth and fun this year. First, get your list started. This may simply be a review of last year’s list. If you don’t have a list, you’ll have to start from scratch. Figure out if you need separate lists for home and business. A good place to start is with your address books. Start with the people that you know you must send cards too. Prioritizing gives you some wiggle room. Instead of trying to … Continue reading

Anthem Blue Cross and the Controversial Credit Card Fee

Anthem Blue Cross was planning on charging customers who paid their bills by credit card a “convenience fee”. After this plan was announced, there have been questions about whether or not it is legal for Anthem to charge this kind of fee. A columnist for the L.A. Times named David Lazarus wrote a recent article that pointed out something that Anthem Blue Cross had started doing. It was charging customers a fee when for paying their monthly bills via an automatic credit card payment. This seems odd, because most businesses prefer customers to pay their bills that way. It helps … Continue reading

What to do with all the Christmas cards?

Every year my mantle is covered in Christmas cards. The kids love getting all the Christmas cards in the mail or from church. We enjoy opening every card and seeing who sent which card. We are convinced you can tell a person’s personality by the Christmas card they choose to send. Among our favorite are picture cards of our friends and family. We hang those on our fridge after the holiday is over until about Valentine’s Day. Why then? That’s about how long they last before they have been touched by too many tiny hands and splattered with who knows … Continue reading

Beware of Postcards From Medicare

Did you get a postcard from Medicare? Although it may look as though this postcard really did come from the government run Medicare insurance program, you need to be aware that it is not what it seems to be. Instead, these postcards are from private insurance companies who are trying to trick consumers into contacting them. Medicare is a government run health insurance program that is for American citizens who are age 65 or older. People who have certain disabilities, or who have End State Renal Disease may also be eligible for the Medicare program. There are four parts to … Continue reading
