Prince Harry Adds to a Long Line of Royal Scandals – Part 3

This is a continuing blog about royal families and scandals. Prince Harry is the latest royal in hot water, but the Monaco’s House of Grimaldi has certainly had its share of tragedies and scandals. American actress Grace Kelly married Monaco’s Prince Rainer III in 1956 in a fairy tale wedding. The couple had a seemingly happy marriage which produced three children – Princess Caroline, Prince Albert, and Princess Stephanie. However, tragedy struck in 1982 when Princess Grace died after a car wreck. Her daughter Stephanie was with her and rumors were that Stephanie was driving when the car careened down … Continue reading

Prince Harry Adds to a Long Line of Royal Scandals – Part 2

Earlier in the week, I blogged about Prince Harry and his recent naked in Vegas photo scandal. Reports are surfacing that the royal family is still behind the young prince and why not? There have been royal scandals in England for quite some time now. Here are a few that might put Harry’s antics to shame: King Edward VIII abdicated the thrown to marry Wallis Simpson. Not only was she American, but she had been divorced – twice – and it was later revealed she was a Nazi sympathizer. Harry’s aunt, Princess Anne, was married to Mark Phillips. That in … Continue reading

Researching Your Ancestors’ Weddings

The recent Royal wedding was just the first of many weddings that will take place this wedding season. Spring and summer are popular times to get married, and chances are that you may be invited to attend one or more weddings for friends and family this year. Of course I must add that around here, wedding season stretches into autumn because the natural beauty of our fall foliage along with mostly pleasant weather creates a breathtaking setting for outdoor weddings. If you are your family’s genealogy expert, you may already be focusing on adding the details of upcoming nuptials to … Continue reading

Watching the Royal Wedding

I have to admit, I was so annoyed with all the pre-wedding coverage prior to yesterday, but when the big day came, I set my DVR along with the rest of the world, and was sucked in by the wedding. I watched too many hours of coverage, and enjoyed every minute of it. Watching two people get married is always a beautiful thing. Add royalty to the mix and it becomes magical! I couldn’t help but think of my own wedding in the Salt Lake City temple. Mormon weddings are the opposite of royal weddings. We don’t walk down the … Continue reading

New Titles For the Royal Couple

Prince William, and his new bride Kate Middleton received some very nice wedding presents from Queen Elizabeth II today. They each have been granted new titles. The history of those titles, and the details about how those particular titles get passed down, is rather interesting. Prince William of Wales is now to be publicly known as His Royal Highness The Duke of Cambridge, the Earl of Strathearn, and Baron Carrickfergus. It is a custom that members of the Royal Family will be awarded a title when they marry. These titles take precedence over the title of Prince. This is because … Continue reading

Royal Weddings: Now and Then

It was almost 30 years ago, but I still remember it vividly. It started on July 28th because I stayed up all night for the event of the decade – Prince Charles’ wedding to Lady Diana Spencer. This young, beautiful, innocent, barely out of her teens girl seemed to carry the future of a whole country on her back. We were close in age – actually, I was two years younger, but everyone I knew admired her, even though we had nothing in common with her. After all, she was marrying a prince and I was lying in the pallet … Continue reading

Kate Middleton’s Royal Roots

Kate Middleton, the soon-to-be-Princess of Wales, has been in the media spotlight for some time now. It’s hard to stay out of the public eye when you are romantically involved with a Prince, you know. In November of 2010, Kate Middleton’s genealogy became a topic of interest overnight following her engagement to Price William. The upcoming royal wedding is generating a lot of buzz in all kinds of areas, including genealogy. Kate’s family tree has been researched by many genealogists, and it is very interesting. As it turns out, Kate Middleton is herself descended from royalty and can trace her … Continue reading

Royal Wedding Goes Bust

There’s still hope with William and Harry around, but the lavish nuptials between the queen of Mexican media, Salma Hayek and her French billionaire fiance, Francois-Henri Pinault is officially kaput, according to the actress’ rep. Reports confirm that the couple has called off their 16-month engagement. Ordinarily the news would hardly be worth a blog; however, the two share a 10-month-old daughter, Valentina Paloma and they had planned to wed in a luxurious tropical extravaganza estimated to be worth more than $3 million later this summer. So does this mean the wedding is off, but the two remain a couple? … Continue reading

Faith Renounced: The “Royal” Price of Marriage

Yesterday Windsor Castle was the setting of a royal marriage. Queen Elizabeth II’s oldest grandson, Peter Phillips, married Canadian Autumn Kelly. From what I can tell, Peter’s one of the lower profile royals. (Meaning, he keeps a low profile by choice.) In fact, he did not immediately reveal to Autumn that he even was a royal. She only realized it when she saw a program about Prince William and spotted Peter as part of it. What’s interesting about their marriage is what she gave up: her faith. She still believes in God, of course, but she was Roman Catholic. She … Continue reading

Travel Tidbits: Royal Viewing and Happy Hybrids

I admit I was a die-hard Princess Diana fan. My mom woke me up at 2 a.m. Hawaii time to watch her fairy tale wedding to Prince Charles. I used my allowance to buy special editions of PEOPLE magazine whenever she was on the cover and I went gaga when her boys were born. So when it was announced that a dozens of Diana’s gowns were going to be displayed at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa in Florida, for a split second I considered making the trip (then reality hit and I remembered that I can barely … Continue reading
