American Idol News: The Final Two and Taylor Hits Broadway

If you watched “American Idol” this week, you know that next week’s season 7 winner will be named David. It just remains to be seen if his last name will be Cook or Archuleta. The two Davids squeezed out the last remaining female contestant, Syesha Mercado, this week. The musical styles of the two Davids are quite different. Although Archuleta is only 17 years old, to me, he has a sort of 70s easy listening feel to his music. On the other hand, Cook is pure rocker, through and through. Regardless of which one wins, I am sure we will … Continue reading

Britney Loses Her Car and Taylor Hicks Loses His Record Contract

I guess in the overall scheme of things, it is insignificant, but Britney Spears has another worry on her shoulders – her Mercedes has been impounded. Lt. David Grimes of the LAPD said that the car was impounded because the pop star has abandoned the car in the middle of a Brentwood road Monday night after it had a flat tire. Britney left the car after the flat and she was given a lift by one of the photographers who had been photographing her. The Mercedes was towed by Quicksilver Towing Company and is being held in the official police … Continue reading

Clay Aiken – Measure of a Man

I may have given you the impression that I’m a Clay Aiken fan. Well, I am! He came out of nowhere to come in second in the American Idol competition, and has outsold Rueben Studdard who did take home the title. With “Measure of a Man,” we have Clay’s debut album. When Clay was getting ready to release this album, producer Clive Davis wanted to title it simply “Clay Aiken.” But Clay wanted the title to convey more of a meaning and a message, rather than just an artist’s name, and he pushed for the album to be called “Measure … Continue reading

American Idol Winner Cancels Summer Tour

If you are a fan of the Season One “American Idol” winner Kelly Clarkson, you may be disappointed to hear that she has cancelled her summer tour dates, reportedly due to poor ticket sales. This news comes just days after Clarkson announced that she was splitting from her manager, Jeff Kwatinetz of The Firm management group. On her official web site, Kelly said, “In the craziness of the music business, performing is what I look forward to doing the most, so it really is disappointing for me to have to tell you that I won’t be coming out to tour … Continue reading

Wal*Mart had a 10/$10 … Continue reading

American Idol News – May 26, 2007

Yes, I know the season finale was last Wednesday, but surely you didn’t think that would be the last we heard from contestants or even the judges, did you? Runner-up Glad He Didn’t Win “American Idol” Sometimes when people who come in second say, “Oh, I am glad I didn’t win,” I think it is just an excuse. But I really think “American Idol” runner-up Blake Lewis isn’t that upset by his loss. He has said it was just an honor to get as far as he did. He also admitted, in a nice way though, that the winning song … Continue reading

This Week in Television – May 25, 2007

Probably the most viewed show on television this week was the “American Idol” finale. We saw Jordin Sparks outlast Blake Lewis to be named season six’s winner. What a long finale show it was! I mean, I was really only interested in seeing who won, but it just went on and on! There were performances by former Idols (Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Taylor Hicks, Chris Daughtry, even this year’s 7th place contestant, Sanjaya Malakar, got to sing). I guess Katharine McPhee was busy. Anyhow, in addition to all the Idol talent, we also saw Tony Bennett, Bette Midler, … Continue reading

Taylor Hicks – The Single and the First Album

With the finale of this year’s American Idol competition counting down just a couple of weeks away, I thought it would be fun to take a look at the music of Taylor Hicks, last year’s Idol. Taylor’s first release was a single, with “Do I Make You Proud?” on one side and “Takin’ It to the Streets” on the other. You’ll recall that “Do I Make You Proud?” is the song chosen for both Taylor and first runner-up Katherine McPhee to sing, and the winner would record it. (And he did!) I didn’t find it to be at all his … Continue reading
