Book Awards: The Whitneys – The Winners and Celebration

I had a unique opportunity this last Saturday night. As I’ve examined book awards over the last few months, I blogged about a new award being offered for LDS fiction, called “The Whitney.” Saturday was the first ever Whitney award dinner, where the winners of the 2007 Whitneys were announced. The Merry-Go-Round – Carroll Hofeling Morris

This LDS fiction novel is a little bit older than those I generally choose to review. Published in 1988, some of the mentions of clothing and fads are dated, but the story is timeless and the writing is great. Maxine Heffelfinger is a woman who has it all. She runs her house with efficiency, she has a successful multi-level marketing group, she fulfills her church callings on time, and she has everything right under her thumb. “Of Deadly Descent” is the sequel to the LDS genealogy mystery, “Cankered Roots.” When last we saw Alex Campbell, she had just solved the mystery of her father’s murder, and uncovered a whole new mess of problems.
