Places to Buy Really Cheap Books

I’m a bibliophile. No, this doesn’t mean I’m addicted to the Bible, although I believe in it. It means that I’m addicted to books. Hardback, paperback, adult, teen, children’s—I love them all. My goal is to someday have a room in my house that is lined with shelves on all sides and to have those shelves completely filled with books for the entire family. But those things can get expensive. Hardbacks sometimes go for around $30.00, depending on how thick they are, and your nicer coffee-table books are even more. How can we afford to keep ourselves and our families … Continue reading

Manage Your Library Account Online

Have I mentioned recently that I love my library? Are you sick to death of me bringing it up? Well, I can’t help it – I really have the greatest library on earth. One of the things I like best about it is the ability I have to access it online. Depending on where you live, you might have this option as well – ask your librarian the next time you’re in. When I sit down at my computer, I click on the link that takes me to my library. I love it so much, it’s saved in my favorites … Continue reading

What is Listmania?

As you shop on Amazon.com, you may notice a book cover on the sidebar, with the heading, “Listmania.” As you click, you’ll discover that someone included that book on a list of their favorites, and they posted that list to share with other Amazon customers. This can be a great way to find other books in the same genre or by the same author that you would enjoy. Start by putting one of your favorite books into the search engine. The Listmania list that pops up in the sidebar will either have that item included on the list, or will … Continue reading

Have You Heard about Kindle?

As if books weren’t wonderful enough already, Amazon has come up with a way to make them more portable. With the recent release of a product called “Kindle,” you can now take up to two hundred e-books with you wherever you go, but only lug around a machine less than the size of a paperback, at 10.3 ounces. I’ve seen steaks bigger than that! Kindle is like a large Palm Pilot. You upload your e-book and then retrieve the information on the screen. But the thing is, the Kindle screen is special. It’s designed to display to look as much … Continue reading

History Channel Delves into the Library of Congress

The Library of Congress (in my opinion) has to be one of the coolest places in the world. I love books and this is the ultimate for a book lover. It has over 138 million items in its collection. That’s right – I said 138 MILLION. But, the Library of Congress has a treasure trove of cool things other than just books. This includes George Washington’s copy of the Constitution, the first map of the United States, and it even has the contents of Abe Lincoln’s pockets from the night he died. The Library of Congress dates back to April … Continue reading
