Baby Blog Month in Review: July 2008

Two of my three children are summer babies. That is, they were born in the summer and had their first months surrounded by sunshine streaming in the windows, the sound of birds chirping, and days spent wearing nothing but a diaper and a “onsie.” I made sure that they had Fourth of July outfits ready, even though one of them arrived a week after the holiday. I guess he just wasn’t interested in the parade. Do you have a summer baby, too? We had a lot of new information to share this past month, such as recall notices and new … Continue reading

Marie Osmond—Her Lips are Flapping But is Anything Coming Out?

Here we go again… Apparently, there are very few stars in Hollywood who understand that there are benefits to remaining mum on certain topics. No, discretion is not a celebrity strong point and Marie Osmond is a perfect example. The former “Dancing with the Stars” contestant has decided the world would be a better place if we all knew how she felt about the Miley Cyrus Vanity Fair picture brouhaha. Yesterday, Osmond went public blaming Miley’s dad, Billy Ray Cyrus for leaving his 15-year-old daughter alone during the photo shoot (F.Y.I. Miley’s grandmother and teacher remained with the teen when … Continue reading

Clean, But For How Long?

Our puppy loves water. She likes nothing better than to be put in the laundry tub and bathed, unlike our other dog that runs a mile at the mere mention of the word ‘bath.’ She happily gets soaped up, rubbed and rinsed. Since she is low to the ground and is an outdoor some of the time and loves investigating everything, the bathwater ends up an interesting color. Dried and brushed, she looks adorable with her ginger fur tinged with black on ears and around her mouth and on her tail. Unfortunately she doesn’t stay clean long. Too soon she … Continue reading

“But my child has never had trouble before…”

Sometime in their career most teachers come across a discipline problem that parents seem to be totally oblivious of existing. When the teacher addresses the issue with the parents, the parents usually have some statement such as, “But he/she never had any trouble before…” There are several things that can come with this statement. In this article, I would like to address various situations with a problem child and seemingly shocked parents. Truth with lack of experience. The parents may actually be telling the truth. They may have never had any trouble with their child before now. However, the child … Continue reading

The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle – Avi

If you have even a speck of adventure in your soul, you will enjoy “The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle” by master storyteller Avi. Charlotte Doyle was raised to be a proper lady. At the age of thirteen, she knows how to dress, act, and behave in a genteel fashion, just as her parents have always hoped. But when she is thrown, unprepared, into treacherous situations, she has to decide for herself how to get out of them. Charlotte was scheduled to sail aboard the Seahawk, a ship belonging to her father’s firm, which would take her from her home … Continue reading

Who Is Your Computing Blogger?

Who is that masked woman behind the screen? It is just humble (sic) old me, so humble I forgot to introduce myself! I have been having a lot of fun here in the computing blog since the 23rd of April. Normally, you will find me over in the Frugal Living Blog or any forum that has to do with saving money. But, truth be told, I’ve been a big computer geek for many years. So, when an opportunity came up to fill in for a bit here in the Computing Blog, I just jumped at the chance. Y’see, I have … Continue reading

Nothing But the Truth – Avi

“Nothing But the Truth” is one of my favorite novels by Avi. Written in documentary style, with none of the traditional introspective narrative to take the reader into the minds and hearts of the characters, we are presented with just the facts and are left to make up our own minds. Our character is Phillip Malloy, a freshman in high school. Each morning in school, “The Star Spangled Banner” is played over the loudspeaker, and Phillip hums along. His teacher tells him that he’s causing a disturbance, but he continues to hum each and every morning as the music is … Continue reading

Day 7: I Slipped, But I Think It was Good

Okay, bear with me here. I slipped yesterday. I spent the entire day wanting that cigarette in the back of mind, unlike all the previous days, this little voice never shut up and it never went away. So I slipped, after hours of doing everything I could think of to get my mind off of it, I caved and had a cigarette. Do you know what? I didn’t enjoy it. In fact, not only did I not enjoy it – it wasn’t what I wanted at all. It didn’t help me feel better. It didn’t actually comfort the craving I … Continue reading

Having a Non-Cuddly Baby

For most mothers, coming home with a newborn baby is the greatest joy in life. The time spent rocking the baby, feeding the baby, and providing lots of cuddling is an experience that cannot be described. However, sometimes, a mother will arrive home only to find her little one has zero interest in cuddling. In fact, some babies almost seem to resent being handled. As you can imagine, for the new single mother, this is devastating, a real let down. Typically, you would notice a non-cuddly baby start to squirm while being held, not wanting to melt into the curves … Continue reading

No Need to Fear

When I go through my day each day, I don’t feel a lot of fear. I am afraid to say that I don’t often think about the tragedy and sorrow that is going on in the world around me. Some days, I don’t even think a lot about what other people are doing that might be morally incorrupt. After all, I am a Mom to 3 small children. My days are full of the bare necessities. Cleaning, cooking, bathing, feeding, breaking up fights, and teaching my children…well, everything children need to be taught. But, some days, I stop and take … Continue reading
