More Moonbear Books by Frank Asch

As promised yesterday, here are some more books in the popular “Moonbear” series by Frank Asch. First is “Moondance.” One night, Bear and Little Bird were sitting together looking at the sky when Bear said he wished he could dance with the moon, but he thought the moon was too special to want to dance with him. Little Bird suggested he might dance with the clouds instead, but even when he asked politely, the clouds stayed in the sky and wouldn’t come down to dance with him. “Moonbear” is a popular children’s book character targeted at listeners in the preschool range and for early readers. There are several books in this series, and I thought it would be fun to take a look at some of Moonbear’s adventures. Daffodil has two sisters, Rose and Violet. The three of them look exactly the same, down to the clothing they wear. Everyone calls them a sweet bouquet of flowers, but no one can tell them apart. Daffodil wants to be appreciated for her own individuality. In school, when Daffodil raises her hand to say something, her teacher invariably calls her by one of her sisters’ names instead of her own. Bear’s All-Night Party – Bill Harley

The moon was full and shone so brightly, Bear couldn’t sleep. He wanted to have a party, and dance and eat food, and he wanted to invite all his friends. The next morning, he told his brother all about his idea. His brother thought it was silly, but that didn’t stop Bear! He made invitations and delivered them, and even wrote a little song to sing to his friends about the fun they would have. Everyone told him it wouldn’t work. The coyote and the moose seemed especially discouraging, but that didn’t stop Bear! He kept right on delivering his … Continue reading

Sleepy Bears – Mem Fox

Bedtime is a universal challenge. No wonder, then, that so many children’s books have been devoted to the very mysterious topic – how do we get the children to go to bed? “Sleepy Bears” by Mem Fox is another cute story book to add to your arsenal. Mother Bear has six adorable little cubs, and winter is coming. She needs to get them all gathered in to go to bed. She promises that if they’ll come inside and get ready for bed, without arguing, she’ll tell each of them a rhyme just for them. Baxter Bear was first. With a … Continue reading
