The beautifully illustrated book titled Little Miss Spider by David Kirk is a story of a determined little spider that emerges from her egg to find herself abandon by her mother. She searches and searches until she happens upon a beetle named Betty who offers to help her. The story continues with the search for the mother spider until brave beetle Betty finds herself rescuing little Miss Spider from the mouth of a predator. Miss Spider’s Sunny Patch Friends

Of all of the children’s programming available on cable television, there is one that I find particularly intriguing. “Miss Spider’s Sunny Patch Friends” is a show about a family of bugs and, I just found out, is based on a series of books by David Kirk. The show stars Miss Spider and her mate Holley. They are mother and father to several bugs, many of whom are adopted, and they take their parenting very seriously. Spider Watching – Vivian French

I do not like spiders. They give me the creepy crawlies, the heebie-jeebies – you name it, they give it to me. However, there are some people who like them, and guess what – my daughter is one of them. She finds insects fascinating. She catches moths and releases them outside, rather than see them be killed. For children like her, I’m reviewing “Spider Watching,” by Vivian French. Sagwa

Sagwa is a Chinese Siamese cat. Yes, that’s a little confusing – but her breed is Siamese and she lives in China, so hence, she’s Chinese. She has an older brother named Dongwa, a younger sister named Sheegwa, and they live with their parents in the palace of the magistrate, the man in charge of their country village. They have a cook to prepare them whatever delicacies they fancy (would that make their meal a Fancy Feast? I’m sorry, I really am) These are some very pampered pussies.
