A richly illustrated book, "Lord of the Forest" will transport you and your child to the deepest jungles, the most verdant valleys, and the clearest streams on a journey to lands untouched by man.

When Tiger was born, his eyes were closed but his hearing was excellent. He could hear sap flowing, grass growing and the monkey calling to his tribe. He told his mother all the things he could hear, and she gave him a warning - when everything around him stopped making noise, he must be ready, for the lord of the forest would be on his way.

As Tiger grew up, he heard more sounds. He heard the creeping of crabs, splashing of frogs, and the slither of water snakes. His mother told him again, that when everything was quiet, he should be ready, for the lord of the forest would be nearby.

Tiger learns to hunt, prowling in the mist, stalking his prey, his claws sharp. He is now a full grown tiger, deadly, solitary, and dangerous. He still listens to the sounds around him, and wonders about his mother's warning. When would he see the lord of the forest?

This becomes his quest - to find the lord. The peacock claims to be him, but Tiger knows that can't be so. The lord will not screech and show off. Then the rhino claims that privilege, but Tiger doesn't think that the lord will bellow and bluster.

Time went by, and Tiger found a beautiful mate. Together they had a litter of baby tigers of their own, but Tiger still felt as though something was missing. He still didn't know who the lord of the forest was - until his mate points out to him that he is the lord of the forest.

The illustrations in this book are simply beautiful. This is a great picture book to share with your animal-loving child.

(This book was published by Frances Lincoln Children's Books and was illustrated by Jackie Morris.)
