House of Secrets -- Jeffrey Savageby Tristi Pinkston | More from this Blogger 02 Sep 2006 06:31 AM In his book "House of Secrets," Jeffrey Savage introduces his new character Shandra Covington, a woman I would probably hate if she were a real person. Why? Because she eats like a horse and is still tiny, that's why! In fact, she's so small, she has to buy her clothes in the children's department. Yeah, I could wring her scrawny little neck. Okay, okay, I'll come clean. I actually really like Shandra. She's a smart little cookie (yeah, she eats those, too) with a head for mystery. In this novel, the first of a series, Shandra's grandmother leaves her the old family house. Shandra goes to visit it one more time before it's sold, wanting to reminisce about visits to Grandma's as a young girl, but instead finds a dead body in a closet, several years old and covered in dust. She goes to town and brings the Sheriff and his handsome deputy Clay back with her, where they discover another dead body, only this one is fresh. Suspicion immediately turns to Shandra. Did she murder the second person to keep the first murder covered up? Maybe her grandmother killed the first person and Shandra was so desperate to protect the family name, she did what she had to do? Now Shandra has two murders to solve and with herself as the prime suspect, the stakes are much higher than she'd like to admit. Clay steps in to help her, and together they piece together the clues while forming a friendship and maybe just a little bit more. You will never guess the final outcome. With suspense around every corner and an awesome chase scene at the end, Jeffrey Savage has created a book with all the appeal of a national novel but written clean for the LDS market. The second installment in the Shandra series will be coming out soon, and I'll be first in line. (This book was published in 2005 by Covenant Communications.)
