Hannah Montana - Teen TV Reviewby Lauri Griffin | More from this Blogger 28 Sep 2007 03:36 PM Hannah Montana is a half hour comedy show on the Disney Channel. The star of the show is Miley Cyrus as Hannah. Miley/Hannah is also a real life star. She currently has two cd's on the top 40 list. Her father on the show is her real life father, and country music star, Billy Ray Cyrus. One of the things I like the most about this show is that the father actually has some sense, and he's involved in the lives of his children. He's got some great southern sayings that make us all laugh. The premise of the show is that Miley is trying to live a normal life. She and her family have moved to Malibu from Tennessee. Miley sometimes has some very funny southern sayings, too. On the show very few people know her big secret, that she is teen star Hannah Montana. She wants people to like her for herself, not because she is a star. On part of the show you see her dealing with normal teen challenges like starting high school, having a crush on a guy, dating, dealing with teachers and school work, being scorned by the popular girls at school, and learning how to be a friend. Against the backdrop of that normal life, the viewer also sees a young pop star dealing with fans, security guards, losing her voice temporarily, going to fashion shows and movie openings. Keeping Miley's two worlds separate provides a lot of humor and tense situations as real world boyfriends don't like Hannah Montana, as a best friend has to be told the secret, as another friend breaks into Hannah's dressing room and she has to hide. Miley's best friend Lilly, played by Emily Osment, provides a lot of laughs. Their escapades remind me sometimes of Lucy and Ethel. Hannah's brother, Jackson, played by Jason Earles, provides a lot of silly and slapstick humor. Jackson and Miley fight like normal siblings, but there's also love behind their bickering. They come through for each other when their sibling needs help. Even though the show is about teenagers it's one I let my nine year olds watch. There is sometimes dating, even quick kissing, but mainly the show is about relationships between friends and family, and about learning to be yourself. You don't see her ever in inappropriate outfits or shaking her stuff on stage. And you hit the nail on the head. . .they totally remind me of Ethel & Lucy. Lauri Griffin (2703) 29 Sep 2007 03:03 PMThat's a really good point, Valerie. Hannah/Miley is very clean. She's cute without being overtly sexy. And that's a nice change from a lot of the young singers. Tristi Pinkston (10839) 13 Oct 2007 01:39 PMI watched this show for the first time last night and while I found the humor pretty campy, it is clean and it is uplifting. I enjoyed the show and wouldn't have any problem watching it in the future. I also like watching the interaction between Miley and Billy Ray and to know that they really are father and daughter and that they have a good relationship off camera, too. I think Emily Osment looks so much like her brother, Haley Joel, as to be almost creepy! Valorie Delp (49340) 14 Oct 2007 03:53 AMMy oldest daughter loves Hanna Montana so much that the twins can sing the theme song. LOL It's hilarious to hear two two year olds singing, "Best of both worlds. . ." Lauri Griffin (2703) 14 Oct 2007 07:40 AMValerie, you have to get your twins singing on tape! Glad you liked the show, Tristi! Valorie Delp (49340) 15 Oct 2007 04:54 AMI've tried but they only sing off camera. I'm telling you though. . .it's just about the cutest thing I've ever seen in my life. They sing everything though. . .theme songs to shows, classic nursery rhymes. . .you name it, they sing it. ;-) Community Tags Disney TV, Disney shows, Hannah Montana, Teen TV Discuss this article
