Friends from Beyond the Veil – Shirley Bahlmann

Do you believe in ghosts? Have you ever felt the presence of a dearly departed loved one, or something more sinister? In “Friends from Beyond the Veil,” author Shirley Bahlmann compiles stories from individuals who have felt and even seen ghostly personages from the other side. Shirley is quick to point out that we must decide for ourselves if the stories are true, but she tells us that, to the people who shared their stories, it’s all completely real. The first section of the book is entitled “Angels and Family.” This was a very comforting segment, talking about persons who … Continue reading

Author Update: Shirley Bahlmann, Part Two

Thanks for joining us for part two of our conversation with Shirley Bahlmann. If you missed part one, click here. Shirley, thanks again for being here. Yesterday we talked about your new releases. What was your inspiration to write these books? “Friends From Beyond the Veil” came about by accident. I was researching stories for a pioneer book and found some modern day haunting stories. People kept telling me more and more stories until I had a book. The Oddly Enough book is the result of readers of the Odds series asking and asking and asking me for another book! … Continue reading

Author Update: Shirley Bahlmann

LDS author Shirley Bahlmann was good enough to drop by and share with us all the wonderful things that have been going on since we last saw her. Shirley, since we last talked to you here on Families.com, you’ve had three books released. Can you tell us a little about each of them? “Friends from Beyond the Veil” was titled by my publisher, and I don’t really like the title. While it contains some stories of people who saw angels or spirits of loved ones, it also includes stories from people who saw spirits from the dark side. But the … Continue reading

Life is Easy – I Just Decide It’s Hard – Gary G. Taylor

When I first picked this book up, I thought, from the title, that I was in for page after page of Pollyanna-type positive mental attitude. One of my least favorite sayings is, “Happiness is a choice,” which is true, but when you’re unhappy, you don’t want to hear it. I was afraid this book would be a never-ending list of reasons why my happiness is up to me. I misjudged it. “Life is Easy—I Just Decide It’s Hard” is actually a wonderful book which takes the scriptures and helps us understand how we can overcome some of life’s most insidious … Continue reading

By Man Least Understood – Derek G. Rowley

Rowley is an LDS doctrinal book that takes the principles of repentance, agency, restoration, atonement, and the everlasting covenant and breaks them down into smaller steps, with supplementing quotes and scriptures to illustrate each one. A former bishop and high councilor, Brother Rowley uses his insights into the principles of the Gospel to help the reader more fully grasp the incredible gift that is ours as given to us by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We begin with a look into the fruit of repentance. Before we can embark on a … Continue reading
