What’s New at FamilySearch? – Week of June 29, 2012

FamilySearch is one of the largest, and most popular, genealogy websites. Many people use it because it doesn’t charge a membership or subscription fee. One of the best things about it is that it is able to frequently update the resources that it can offer to genealogists. Here is some of what’s new at FamilySearch this week. FamilySearch has been working on a project called the Massachusetts Wiki Project. They recently added a major content update to the Plymouth County, Massachusetts page. There have also been twenty-seven Plymouth County town pages added. Genealogists can find vital records, a history of … Continue reading

Wedding Photos Tell Family Stories

Wedding photos are important. People spend thousands of dollars on hiring a photographer and purchasing the photos that he or she takes of their wedding. Genealogists know that those photos are a great source of family history and family stories. In the mail today, I got something that I had been looking forward to. It was a small package of photos that I ordered from the photographer who my sister hired to take photos at her wedding. Somehow, I managed to wait until the last minute to make this purchase. I guess time got away from me. Looking over the … Continue reading

Just Dance 3 Review

Sometimes it is just a little difficult to get the motivation to exercise. Faithful with walking and running in the other three seasons, getting out in the dark and the cold takes some extra resolve that isn’t always there. The warm cinnamon rolls and a cup of coffee always seem much more appealing than donning layers to head out to the park in 25 degrees. Still, all of those Christmas cookies can wreck havoc. With four other people in the house who either need exercise or at least an outlet for their energy, we decided to try Just Dance 3 … Continue reading

Family Movie Night: Heidi

It is harder and harder these days for me to find good entertainment for my kids that doesn’t have the affect of making them grow up too fast. Even a recent G-rated show had a couple of characters in it that, well, got busy. Although the action was never shown, it was certainly implied. Yikes. So for family movie nights, we tend to go back in time to movie classics, even those not yet in color. For example, there is Miracle on 34th Street, which, believe it or not, was a very controversial movie banned by the Catholic church for … Continue reading

Patchwork Family

I love my pieced together family. Most people don’t understand it but as a single mother every single person who has become part of my post divorce family has helped me deal with the stress of being a single parent. Sometimes I forget to be grateful. My sisters are always there for me, I have a best friend who is as close as a sister and other friends, married and single, who help me through the rough spots. I think it’s important not to let you divorce define you or your family. When I got divorced I felt like Hailey … Continue reading

Weight Loss Its A Family Thing

SO my weight loss journey has become a family thing. All 3 of my kids are considered to be overweight and one even obese when it comes to the BMI. It is not because we don’t pay attention to what the kids are eating because we really do. I truly believe part is genetics now they are all adopted so I cannot use the fact that they have my genes as a reason but having seen pictures of their biological family I do think it is part of it. I had taken my daughter to the doctor once when he … Continue reading

Funny Family Scrapping

“Families are like fudge – mostly sweet with a few nuts.” That quote was front and center on a hilarious scrapbook layout, which was displayed at a crop I attended a few weeks ago. Not every clan is like the Waltons. In fact, I would venture to guess that more families have their roots in reality TV shows, or at the very least, have closer ties to the Simpsons or the Brady Bunch than the Cleavers and Nelsons. Whether your family life is more like a sitcom than a sappy greeting card, there’s no reason not to document it in … Continue reading
