Dancing with the Stars

I'll freely admit it-I'm a "Dancing with the Stars" fanatic, too. It's allowable to have more than one television love, isn't it?

"Dancing with the Stars" has a fun premise. It takes world class ballroom dancers and teams them up with celebrities, who may or may not have any dancing in their backgrounds at all. The professionals choreograph the numbers and teach them to the celebrities, who then perform them for three judges-Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Bruno Tonioli, professionals in the business. The judges' scores only count for half of the contestants' total score-the viewers at home can also cast their votes, making up the other fifty percent.

I love this show for many reasons. First, I'm a huge fan of ballroom dance in the first place. I think it's fun to see these celebrities in a new light and get to know them on a different level, and it's fun to watch them learn these complicated steps. I love seeing someone "get" a new concept and put it into action. I do get carried away in the competition just a little bit - the year Mario Lopez didn't win, when he should have, I was furious for a week. But that's part of what makes the show so successful - the emotional involvement of the fans.

I don't always care for the costumes-some of the female professionals really get outrageous with their clothes. Sometimes I think the music used doesn't really go with the dance-they're trying to appeal to a younger crowd by using more modern music, but hey, if you're going to dance a Paso Doble, use the right music! Beyond those two minor complaints, however, I think the show is practically perfect in every way and I eagerly look forward to Monday and Tuesday nights on ABC.
