CraftyPod - Podcast Review

CraftyPod is a fun and inspiring biweekly podcast on crafting. The average podcast is about 20 minutes long, which is plenty of time to inspire the listener to drag out their craft projects. You can always count on Craftypod to fill you in on the latest craft products, news from the craft world, opportunities for crafters, and inspiration to try new things.

I don't own a sewing machine. I can't even sew more than a button or hem, but the podcast on Burda Style made me want to learn. Burda Style has free patterns for people to use, change, and develop. Users can then post their creations online. If they have trouble they can post questions. The patterns are also not copyrighted which means sewers are free to sell their projects.

The podcast subjects vary. Sometimes they are project tutorials. Sometimes the host, Diane Gilleland, interviews crafters who are revitalizing arts, joining communities, running blogs and online stores, and much more. One of the most interesting podcasts I've heard was on the history and future of loom knitting. Who would have thought that knitting methods were so controversial? On of the most recent podcasts was on how to avoid crafting burnout, how to prioritize projects, and how to stay motivated. The crafting guests had great ideas, not only for crafting projects but for any projects.

The Craftypod blog has lots of links to some of the best internet crafting sites. They also offer interviews with crafters, as well as project ideas and instructions. Right now there is a very cute monster doll made out of a knit glove. A lot of the projects use recycled products, and many of the projects are easily adaptable for doing with children.

If you are a hard core crafter or only a dabbler, you'll want to give this podcast a listen.
