The Undomestic Goddess – Sophie Kinsella

Once again, I have found a book that I absolutely loved, except for a few of “those” parts. I hate it when that happens! I want to recommend it unequivocally but I can’t. What I will do is steer you around “those” parts and we will celebrate together what is fabulous about the book. “The Undomestic Goddess” is about Samantha Sweeting, a lawyer at a high-powered London firm. She has put so much time and effort into her work that she hardly has a life of her own anymore, but it’s paying off – she’s about to be made partner. … Continue reading

Confessions of a Shopaholic – Sophie Kinsella

I went to bed with a bad headache last night. After taking some medicine, I thought I would lay down with a book until the pain subsided, and then I’d be able to go to sleep. I stayed up until 2:30 a.m. – there was no way to put the book down until it was finished. I remember when I started reading the first book, Confessions of a Shopaholic, people would wish me luck. I guess they didn’t realize that it was a novel and not a self-help book. I didn’t have a problem with compulsive shopping and the book was fiction, but there were lessons about how not to live your life in the book. The book introduced us to a very needy person who shops to fill an empty space in her life. Her debt load is incredible. … Continue reading

Meet Your Match – Stephanie Fowers

“Meet Your Match” is the second novel by Stephanie Fowers to fall into the “Mormon Chick-lit” genre. Stephanie takes everything that is stereotypically true about college singles wards and turns out a story that is funny, quirky, and highly entertaining. Jacqueline Childs (known as “Jack” to most of her friends) is a girl who has been burned. She believes herself to fall under the singles’ ward appellation of “burnt girl,” but Christian and Britton, two of her best guy friends, think she’s really a “squirrelly girl,” meaning – girl who likes to flirt and break hearts. She’s not trying to … Continue reading
