Denise Richards Adopts and Charlie Sheen Pays

Actress Denise Richards is hearing the pitter patter of little feet, but it is not from her baby-daddy, ex-husband Charlie Sheen. Richards has announced that she just adopted a child born domestically. New daughter Eloise Joni joins the daughters Lola, 6, and Sam, 7, Richards had with Sheen. Richard’s rep said that new daughter “Eloise Joni Richards is named after Denise’s mom (Joni), and Denise and her daughters Sami and Lola chose the name Eloise.” The rep went on to say that “Denise and Eloise’s big sisters couldn’t be happier and feel incredibly blessed.” At least Sheen can thank his … Continue reading

Charlie Sheen and Ellen DeGeneres Prepping for Kids

Not together, though, that would make for an interesting blog… and potential TV movie. Comedian turned talk show hostess Ellen DeGeneres and her partner Portia de Rossi are reportedly adding to their family. According to Star magazine, de Rossi plans to undergo fertility treatments in a few months. Sources tell the magazine that the couple would love a son, but will be happy with “any healthy baby.” News of de Rossi’s pending IVF treatments comes as DeGeneres confirms that she will step away from her talk show when her contract ends in 2010. In previous interviews, the famous female couple … Continue reading

Charlie Sheen’s Young Daughters Involved in Car Accident

Fortunately, the girls escaped unharmed, but their famous father says it was a “close call.” According to police reports, 4-year-old Sam and 3-year-old Lola Sheen were being driven by their nanny in a Mercedes SUV around Malibu Friday afternoon when a Honda Civic made a turn in front of them. The crashed reportedly sparked a four-car collision, which left the driver of the Honda in serious condition. Reports say Sheen and ex-wife Denise Richards’s daughters were unharmed. “Charlie told me that the girls are fine,” the actor’s publicist told reporters. “He said it could have been much worse. They were … Continue reading

Charlie Sheen’s New Boys and Guy Ritchie’s New Girl

What a difference a year can make. While some maintain he doesn’t deserve happiness, Charlie Sheen is having one heck of a 2008. Not only did he cut ties with former wife Denise Richards (though, when you are divorced from the other parent of your children, are you ever completely rid of them?), the same woman he dubbed “a pathetic example of a human being,” but Sheen also married his girlfriend Brooke Mueller and three months after the wedding announced that she was pregnant. Now, on top of all that, Sheen just confirmed that Mueller is expecting twins. Twin boys … Continue reading

Crazy 8s–The Lucky and the Unlucky

Clay Aiken’s new son may not be the luckiest baby in the world after all. Food Network’s Tyler Florence and his wife Tolan Clark Florence welcomed daughter Dorothy Tyler Florence on Friday, August 8th at 8:08 am as well. According to Florence’s rep, the new baby girl weighed 9 lbs and was 19 inches long. Dorothy joins big brother Hayden who is 14 months old. The celebrity chef is also dad to a 12-year-old son Miles from a previous relationship. As I mentioned in a previous blog, in China the number 8 is considered very lucky because the Chinese word … Continue reading

Will the Third Time be the Charm for Charlie Sheen?

Charlie Sheen has tied the knot yet again. The star of “Two and a Half Men” walked down the aisle for the third time last night, according to his rep. The 42-year-old actor wed fiancée Brooke Mueller, a real estate investor, who he has been dating for more than a year. The couple got engaged in Costa Rica last June, after Sheen presented the 30-year-old blonde with a $500,000 custom-designed 11-carat yellow diamond and platinum ring. Mueller may have gotten the bling and the Reem Acra wedding gown she wanted, but it doesn’t sound as though she got the wedding … Continue reading

Learning About Other Cultures and Religions Through Children’s Television

Sometimes we have a tendency to think of TV as just entertainment, when it can be much more. One episode of “Blue’s Clues” we particularly enjoyed was one where Steve and Blue were making the rounds of the neighborhood, wishing their friends a happy holiday season. They went to a home where Kwanzaa was being celebrated, with corn and goblets set on a mat, and learned that Kwanzaa commemorates the strength of community and togetherness. Then they went to a Jewish home and learned about the miracle that began the tradition of Hanukah. Their last stop was at a Christian … Continue reading

A Warning for Parents with Pet-Loving Kids

That’s my daughter with her pet snake. Okay, that slithery creature never actually made it home with us.  Thank goodness!  However, other slimy critters have sauntered, swam and slipped into our lives due in large part to my child’s obsession with being a pet owner. We’ve had Lola, Pongo, Charlie and Charlie II. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of exotic animals, but when you are a parent of a pet-loving kid, you learn to master the fine art of sacrifice. You also learn the importance of doing research on the type of varmint your child so desperately wants to … Continue reading

Most Popular Pet Names of 2012

One thing we see a lot of this time of year is lists of baby names: the top baby names for the year, and names that are projected to be popular in the coming year.  What we don’t expect to see are studies of a different sort of name: dog names.  But that’s just what MSN did, compiling a list of the top puppy names for 2012. A familiar name tops the list: Bella.  It’s been a popular female dog name since 2006, thanks to the “Twilight” craze.  I can attest to that; Chihiro was originally named Bella when we … Continue reading

Would You Let Your Preschooler Watch Violent Television?

A couple of weeks ago, we went downtown to see the Chinese New Year parade. It was great fun, especially since this year it was not sleeting. After the parade, we picked up some steamed buns, ate some chocolate lucky money, and perused some of the stores. I got my daughter a backpack for kindergarten this fall. It’s covered with anime nature characters and little smiley faces. As we took the bus home we examined the backpack and discovered that one of the little smiling cartoon characters was carrying a gun. Discussion ensued, and we decided that taking a picture … Continue reading
