Good Reasons to Use Cloth Diapers

There was a time when the only option mothers had was to use cloth diapers. Today, parents can pickup packages of plastic, disposable, diapers from any grocery store. Not all parents are doing that, however. It appears that cloth diapers are making a comeback. There are plenty of good reasons to use cloth diapers. According to Vogue, cloth diapers are becoming trendy, especially for parents who are part of the Millennial generation. Scientific American says that climate change is the issue of the Millennial generation. Cloth diapers are much better for the planet than disposable diapers are. According to the … Continue reading

Pregnancy and Last Minute Changes

Yesterday I found out that one of my two midwives left the practice.  Yesterday also happened to mark a calendar month before my due date.  As you might guess, in my hormonal state (and given that I’m also just kind of a worrier anyway), I found this all upsetting. Now that there’s only one midwife, there’s a chance I might have a regular obstetrician deliver my baby, if my midwife isn’t on call when I go into labor.  Not only that, it will be one I won’t know, because all of my prenatal appointments have been with my midwives.  It’s … Continue reading

Change can be Good

When you have your own business, you may find that after a time of offering the same products and services for a while you want to try something different. One great thing about owning your own business is that you are able to change the types of products and services that you offer whenever you would like to. I am in the process of changing some of the services that I offer through my two home – based businesses and so far, things are going well. One change that I am making with my law practice is that I am … Continue reading

Nebraska Bill Would Require Governor to Use Exchange

The Governor of Nebraska, Dave Heineman, decided that Nebraska would opt for a federally run health insurance exchange. Senator Jeremy Nordquist has introduced a bill that would require the governor, and other lawmakers, to use that exchange to acquire health insurance coverage. Part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, (which is also known as the Affordable Care Act or Obamacare), requires every state to have a health insurance exchange. The purpose of the exchanges is to enable individuals and small businesses to easily find affordable health insurance. There were three different options that a state could choose for … Continue reading

Exercise: It’s Good for the Heart

Most of us have already failed miserably at keeping our New Year’s Resolutions, according to the radio this morning at least 80% of us have given up on them already. This is pretty typical after the first week or two, but even if you’ve struggled with them a little so far, you have a whole year to perfect them so don’t give up hope! This year one of my many resolutions was to start exercising again. I, like most people, put on a few extra pounds during the holidays. When you have kids around there seems to be an endless … Continue reading

Fitness Should Be a Lifestyle Change

We’re just a few days into the New Year.  Are you still feeling the same resolve to make this a healthier year? It’s no secret that gym clubs are swarming in the month of January.  More fruits and vegetables are purchased in January.  Changes are being made across the board. Yet it’s not uncommon for this to start dropping off in February and March.  By April it’s pretty obvious who are going to be the ones most likely to stick it out. While the good intentions are there, it won’t be what keeps you going.  There has to be more … Continue reading

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

It’s always interesting to reflect back on the past year, to review the most significant moments, to pay special attention to those things you might have changed and to marvel at how quickly it all went by.  Some of us might get stuck in the past, while others find it easier to move on. I would have to say that without a doubt, the year 2012 was the most difficult for me as a parent.  Our family went through a troubling situation with our teen daughter that lasted several months.  All it took was one boy to enter the picture … Continue reading

Illinois Moves Forward on Insurance Exchange

The state of Illinois is taking steps to move forward on its health insurance exchange. The state sees the value in doing this no matter which candidate wins the 2012 Presidential election. A coalition of concerned groups in Illinois urged Governor Pat Quinn to set up Illinois’ exchange. Part of the Affordable Care Act requires every state to set up their own health insurance exchange. The exchanges will allow people to find an affordable health insurance plan. All exchanges are expected to be up and running by January 1, 2014. States that choose not to create their own state-run exchange … Continue reading

What Would You Change?

If you could turn back time what would you change? I’ve thought about this a lot. How many times have you wished you could do things over, make different choices? It makes me sad that I wasn’t married once, for the rest of my life, I wish I had made better choices. When I see how much value my home has lost and how upside down I am in it I wish I could go back and undo that choice. I wish I had gone to college, had more children, written a novel, been a better mother, sister, friend. So … Continue reading
