What Do You Read For?

My mom has been staying with me for the last month recovering from a fall, and with little else to do, has been gobbling up my bookshelves almost faster than I can replenish them. I'm passing along all the books I think she ought to like, but I'm finding something odd.

As if books weren't wonderful enough already, Amazon has come up with a way to make them more portable. With the recent release of a product called "Kindle," you can now take up to two hundred e-books with you wherever you go, but only lug around a machine less than the size of a paperback, at 10.

I'm a bibliophile. No, this doesn't mean I'm addicted to the Bible, although I believe in it. It means that I'm addicted to books. Hardback, paperback, adult, teen, children's-I love them all.

I had a unique opportunity this last Saturday night. As I've examined book awards over the last few months, I blogged about a new award being offered for LDS fiction, called "The Whitney." Saturday was the first ever Whitney award dinner, where the winners of the 2007 Whitneys were announced.

I had The Rainbow Goblins book on my desk for several weeks now. I've been trying to figure out how to describe it. It's a picture book. But I wouldn't show it to young children. It's a fairy tale where good triumphs greediness, but it's message is subtle.
