Author Interview – Sandra Grey

Last week, I had the fun of reviewing a new LDS historical fiction novel, “Traitor.” Today we are joined by the author of “Traitor,” Sandra Grey. Sandra, your first novel just hit the bookstores. What does it feel like, having this dream come to pass? It’s a feeling I have to describe with a little background information first: Near Thanksgiving Day in 2002 I stood on Red Square in Moscow, rough bricks under my feet, my hands, nose and ears numb, a strange language in my ears and my Arizona coat losing the battle against a murderous Russian cold front. … Continue reading

The Pets Blog Week in Review for February 25-March 2

Aimee and I went to town last week with a variety of articles. In case you missed any, here’s your handy Week in Review catch up cheat sheet. Monday, February 25 How do you earn a roaming stray dog’s trust? I’m trying to figure that out so I can win over the stray in our neighborhood. Aimee logged another entry in her Diary of a Cat Care B & B: how not to wash a cat. I reported on Murph’s progress with the PoochIQ test. Tuesday, February 26 Hey what’s this? I know this chick! That’s right, Aimee conducted an … Continue reading

“Give Me German Shepherds or Give Me Death” – A Chat with Historical Fiction Author Sandra Worth

If you’re not familiar with her work, this author’s name may be familiar to you because of an interview she honored me with over in Marriage. As part of our exchanges I found out she was the proud momma of a new puppy. Until that point I hadn’t realized she was also a dog lover. (I’d only known her as author extraordinaire.) “I must have another interview,” I said. “Sure,” she agreed. So, here it is. Sandra Worth generously sharing some more about her life. Enjoy! Courtney Mroch: What kind of things do you write about? (Genre, subject matter, themes, … Continue reading

Author Interview – Sandra Worth, on Writing and Lecturing

Thank you for joining us for part two of our conversation with author Sandra Worth, who wrote “Lady of the Roses.” If you missed part one, click here to catch up. Sandra, may I compliment you on your writing — your tone is smooth, your descriptions are beautiful. Yet I notice your education is in economics and political science. You’ve obviously developed both the right and left sides of your brain. Do they ever war with each other? First, thank you for the compliment! I’m delighted you feel this way. I think my right-side has atrophied over the years from … Continue reading

Author Interview – Sandra Worth

Today we are joined by Sandra Worth, the author of the book I reviewed this morning, “Lady of the Roses.” Sandra, thank you for joining us here on Families.com. I’m impressed with the amount of research that went into this book. Where did you find your information, and how do you keep it all organized? Thank you, Tristi. I read everything I can get my hands on –biographies, historical texts of the period, articles—whatever is available at university libraries, by purchase, and online. As a result, I have quite a library now, and no more shelf space! Being historical fiction, … Continue reading

His Commuting Led to Her Awards: An Interview with Author Sandra Worth

The cover from Sandra’s latest book, Lady of the Roses: A Novel of the Wars of the Roses I’ve introduced you to Sandra Worth and promised you an interview. True to my word, here it is. Courtney Mroch: How long have you been married? Sandra Worth: A looong time, spanning several DECADES!! (I won’t say how many!) CM: How many years did your husband commute for work? SW: It’s been twenty years now. CM: How long would he be away? (Days? Weeks? Longer?) SW: For four very long years, he commuted out of state. It took him seven hours to … Continue reading

Interviewing Sandra Worth on Marriage, Commuting, and Writing

Have you ever had a remarkably gifted friend or acquaintance? One you just knew would “make it big” someday? I’d like to introduce you to a friend of mine like that, Sandra Worth. She’d tell you she’s far from such a person, but that’s only because she’s modest. I’m here to tell you otherwise. I first met Sandra when I was an editor for NovelBooks, Inc. I edited mysteries and romances mainly, but I ended up agreeing to edit her book (which was a historical) to help catch up on backlog. She made my job very difficult. Not because she … Continue reading

Clueless Nights (or, Clueless in Portland)

I often joke that my dog Moose is the world’s dumbest German shepherd. The breed is known for being pretty smart, but Moose doesn’t seem to have gotten much in the brain department. (Though sometimes he surprises me!) I love him anyway… but last night, he was driving me insane. It’s been a week of increasing temperatures in the Portland, Oregon area, culminating in the 90s on Friday. The overnights have been somewhat cooler, but I’m the kind of person who likes it COLD in the bedroom. I’m happiest when I can burrow down under a big heap of blankets … Continue reading

Signs They Send After They’re Gone

Have you had “an awesome one” like Aimee wrote about? The kind of pet where your bond is ultra-powerful? So powerful that they find ways to communicate with you even after they’re gone? When I interviewed Sandra Worth she had mentioned experiencing something along these lines. A day when she felt her beloved Rex’s presence so strongly she knew his spirit was still with her. Ever since we moved to Nashville Budly doesn’t do it as much as he did when we lived in Jacksonville, but he used to send hellos to Wayne all the time –via tennis balls. Wayne … Continue reading

Tristi Pinkston Shares Thoughts on Juggling, Ranting and Raving, and Faith

One of my resolutions for ‘08 was to emphasize the positives of marriage. My thinking was that if we have good examples to follow, we’ll have guides to help strengthen our own relationships. That said, I’d like to introduce you to my fellow blogger, Tristi Pinkston. Tristi is a Senior Blogger who covers Media, Movie Reviews, and LDS and has been married to her husband twelve and a half years. I asked if she’d be game for an interview because she’s a very witty, wise woman who always has sage advice. In other words, she’s primo role model material. I … Continue reading
