American Idol Accused of Racism

The newest season of “American Idol” kicked off with last year’s judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez being replaced with the feuding Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj. While some may be talking about the rotating judges, a new controversy has arisen.  Nine former “American Idol” contestants – all African American males – are suing the show, claiming that they were kicked off the show as a part of a racist plot. The former contestants are Corey Clark (Season 2), Jaered Andrews (Season 2), Donnie Williams (Season 3), Terrell Brittenum (Season 5), Derrell Brittenum (Season 5), Thomas Daniels (Season 6), Akron Watson … Continue reading

Ellen is Leaving Idol and Diddy Wants In

More American Idol changes and gossip this week and it wasn’t all good. First off, I was a bit unsure to whether I was going to like Ellen DeGeneres when it was announced she would be taking Paula Abdul’s place on Idol. The first couple of episodes were a bit awkward. I mean, after all, what does Ellen know about music other than how to dance to it? Then, about half way through the season, Ellen hit her stride. What she said wasn’t really relevant to helping the contestants, but she was funny and a bit like Paula, she seemed … Continue reading

Is American Idol Rigged?

While the world waits to see if Paula Abdul will return to “American Idol” (she still hasn’t signed a contract even though the auditions for the next season start in early August), there is another “American Idol” storm brewing. The AI Now website had some past contestants conduct an online chat with viewers yesterday, but it seems everyone got more than they bargained for. Contestant Ju’Not Joyner was eliminated early on in the season last year, so I am not sure if he is being truthful or if it is just sour grapes, but he certainly had a lot to … Continue reading

American Idol News about Runner-Up Adam Lambert

It has been almost a week since Kris Allen was crowned the latest winner of “American Idol,” but so far, the majority of the news seems to be about the runner-up Adam Lambert. Clay Aiken had some not so nice things to say about the second place finisher in his blog, which only paying members can access. Right after the finale, Aiken said that Lambert’s version of the Johnny Cash classic “Ring of Fire” was “awful,” “contrived,” and “slightly frightening.” He also wrote that while listening to the performance, he thought his ears would bleed. He also went on to … Continue reading

American Idol’s Underdog Kris Allen

Kris Allen snuck into the final thirteen of “American Idol.” I don’t remember seeing his original audition or much, if any, of him during the famed Hollywood week. When he was announced as one of the top thirteen, I think a lot of people went “Huh?” But, Allen has proved his worth by making it to tonight’s finale. Call him the Little Singer that Could. Allen has outlasted everyone else except powerhouse Adam Lambert to make it to the finale. Allen and Lambert’s styles are quite different. Allen looks humble up on the stage no matter what he is doing, … Continue reading

“American Idol” Judges—-Staying or Going

Simon Cowell is flapping his lips again. This time the sardonic “American Idol” judge is yapping about his last days on the show that made him a household name. According to reports, Cowell has vowed to quit as judge on “American Idol” if the hit show slips from the top spot in the TV ratings. The singing show regularly draws about 22 million viewers per episode in the United States, and has been No.1 in the Nielsen ratings for the last few years. However, the acerbic Brit is adamant that if the program ever dips in the ratings, he will … Continue reading

Simon Cowell on Ice and “American Idol” the Movie

Leave it to media hog Simon Cowell to find a grandiose way to keep his legacy alive after his death. According to a new report, the “American Idol” judge is planning to do the world an “invaluable service” by having his body frozen after he dies so he can be brought back to life in the future. I have a feeling he’s not joking. The music mogul reportedly shared his brilliant idea with guests at a private dinner hosted by Britain’s Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Witnesses say Cowell is dead serious about having his body preserved in liquid nitrogen in … Continue reading

Obama Inauguration Coverage Dips to American Idol

Oh sure, he’s now the president of the free world and made ground breaking history by being our first president of African descent, but Obama had to give it up to “American Idol” last night, at least in ratings. After what seems like weeks of Obama coverage and an entire inaugural day of constant coverage, Americans turned their minds off for idol Idol. But, before that happened, Barack Obama pulled in some big television ratings. In fact, his inauguration pulled in the biggest Nielsen numbers since 1981 when Ronald Reagan was sworn into office. According to the Nielsen estimates, about … Continue reading

American Idol Updates

It is that time of year! No, I don’t mean Christmas, I mean time for the excitement of the upcoming “American Idol” season, which will start on January 19th. As might be expected, “American Idol” has been in the news lately, for good or for bad. Paula Abdul has put her house up for sale after “American Idol” contestant Paula Goodspeed committed suicide in her car outside the house. Word is that Paula doesn’t feel safe in the house any longer. There was also talk of her blaming “American Idol” producers for not further protecting her from rabid fans. She … Continue reading

Former “American Idol” Contestant Found Dead Outside of Paula Abdul’s Home

In what’s being categorized as a “sad incident” by law enforcement officers, the body of a former “American Idol” contestant was found dead in a car near Paula Abdul’s Los Angeles home. According to news reports, 30-year-old Paula Goodspeed overdosed on drugs shortly after she parked her vehicle on a street outside of Abdul’s house Tuesday night. The Season 5 contestant was said to have been infatuated with the “American Idol” judge. Police say they found Goodspeed’s car (which featured the license plate “ABL LV”) parked a few yards from Abdul’s L.A. home. Officers confirm that the vehicle was registered … Continue reading
