“American Idol” News: Kids Nearly Drown While Mom Watches Show and Simon the Metrosexual

Avid fan or not most people know that “American Idol” is a cult phenomenon. Unfortunately, the addiction one die-hard fan has to the singing contest nearly cost her daughter her life. According to news reports, a 25-year-old mother of five “accidentally” left two of her young children alone in the bathtub while she was watching “American Idol.” The Indianapolis mom says she got caught up watching the contestants strut their stuff and as a result one of her children nearly drowned. According to a police report, the “Idol” fan placed her 3-year-old and 1-year-old in the tub and went to … Continue reading

Spice Girls Reunite

Don’t believe the rumors… The Spice Girls will not be reuniting for the Princess Diana memorial concert next month. They are, however, preparing for a Christmas reunion tour, according to PEOPLE magazine. A source close to the group told the publication that the popular five-woman group will be reuniting together in December to perform new material that is currently being created by Geri Halliwell, a.k.a. “Ginger Spice” and Emma “Baby Spice” Bunton. The Spice Girls were one of the most successful female acts of the 1990s, thanks in large part to their manager Simon Fuller (the man who created “American … Continue reading

Big Girls Unite

Years ago the rap artist Sir Mix-A-Lot had a hit with the song “I Like Big Butts.” It was an ode to females who had large behinds. The song’s lyrics included phrases that applauded women who didn’t feel the need to loose weight in their “trunks.” Looking back, I could definitely see why some in the music industry, particularly the ones associated with Sir Mix-A-Lot’s record label, said the song helped boost the self-esteem of women who would ordinarily be ostracized for carrying extra weight in their backsides. Fast forward to 2007 and another song is getting the same recognition … Continue reading

Gwyneth Paltrow Anti-American?

Is Gwyneth Paltrow anti-American? The accusation made by fans has the actress fighting back. According to PEOPLE magazine, the 34-year-old Oscar winner is “deeply upset” over stories claiming she made anti-American remarks, which she claims are a “big mistake.” The recent criticism of Paltrow came after she was quoted as telling the Portuguese newspaper Diario De Noticias, “The British are much more intelligent and civilized than the Americans.” But, the actress claims she never said anything against her native country. “I felt so upset to be completely misconstrued and I never, ever would have said that,” Paltrow told American journalists. … Continue reading

Disney a Most Trusted Company

Last week I mentioned that Forbes Magazine named the Walt Disney Corporation as the world’s third most trusted company. I promised I’d elucidate the idea further. The parameters of the study, which was actually carried out by the Reputation Institute (a company which “helps corporate clients manage their images”), declared these companies the ones that “consumers like, trust, and respect the most.” Disney, following Google and Sony, earned a global reputation score of 77.97. Unfortunately the study doesn’t specify what that’s out of; I’m assuming out of 100 but list topper Google only ranked a 78.62 so it might be … Continue reading

“Big Fat Greek Wedding” Star Advocates for Foster Adoption”

I’ve written about Angelina Jolie, Katherine Heigl and Madonna adopting internationally, and about Sheryl Crow adopting an infant and Sandra Bullock’s adoption of an African-American infant from New Orleans. (Breaking news on Bullock: gossip sites like “Anything Hollywood”and “igossip” are saying Bullock wants to adopt a sibling for Louis, and wants to start the process now and hope that it won’t take as long as Louis’ adoption. Bullock and her then-husband Jesse James applied to adopt nearly four years ago. I haven’t heard any mainstream verification of this, though. ) It seems rarer to hear about celebrities adopting from foster … Continue reading

In Desperation of Thinness

I was reading an article the other day and discovered some interesting, although somewhat disturbing, information regarding statistics on thinness. It is really rather sad. Being thin is healthier for you, it is true. You are also more comfortable moving about when you are thin. Your clothes do feel better on you. As a whole, sadly, you are more accepted when you are a thinner person versus a heavier person. To what extent though do we take thinness? A recent poll of American women in a popular woman’s magazine found that out of the thousands that were questioned on the … Continue reading
